Arctic Monkeys: Barcelona 2012
January 28, 2012 2:42 pmWe went to see Arctic Monkeys at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona last night. While the band musically are probably the best I’ve seen them the gig was spoilt by a small section of the crowd nearby and we ended up moving and feeling pretty pissed off – I don’t care whether your drug of choice is alcohol, coke or just good old adrenaline, but enjoying yourselves shouldn’t impinge on the enjoyment of people around you.
It was noticeable that they performed the older tracks better than songs from Suck It And See, which seemed rather lethargic at times, but overall Alex Turner was on top form, speaking Catalan to the audience on a number of occasions, which went down well.
Anyway, here are the opening and closing songs:

Good gig and good effort with the Catalan. The only problem is that I also seem to have picked the wrong area in the Palau: stray drunken desperate English women trying to pick up anything wearing trousers, an OAP stag or otherwise comatose group of men, one of which actually fell asleep during/after Miles Kane was on, most of them missing the best AM tracks going up and down (more beer? incontinence? to be sick? I can’t imagine they were in any state for anything ressembling coupling). All topped up with derogatory comments towards the locals. Five star British performance overseas. Sadly usual on our Costa Brava. What with this and an amount of teenager girls discussing whether the boots they had on matched their outfits… for a while I thought I’d gone to the wrong concert. Not the bands’ fault, of course. But will stay well clear from this kind of public the next time.
